Physical Rehabilitation Program
The Physical Rehabilitation Program (PR) provides rehabilitation services to children and adolescents with congenital or acquired disabilities, and to those who are in need of intensive post-surgical
rehabilitation.
The PR program strives to help individuals realize their fullest potential while enhancing their overall quality of life upon return to the community.
Emphasis is placed on maximizing functional outcome in areas of:
- mobility
- self care
- communication
- cognition
- psychosocial adjustment for patients
Education and training provides families with the knowledge and skills needed to meet the health care needs of their children, and prepares patients and their families for life in the community. The PR program provides all of their services in a family-centered, inpatient environment, as well as in outpatient and home settings to ensure continuity and cost-effective care. In addition, we collaborate and consult closely with a variety of specialists from local university teaching hospitals.
Indications for Referral
This program serves children up to age 18, although young adults are considered on an individual basis, with physical rehabilitation needs such as:
- Acquired Brain Injury
- Neurological Disorders
- Spinal Cord Injuries and Defects
- Post-operative Neurosurgical Procedures
- Orthopedic Conditions (traumatic, post-operative and Ilizarov reconstruction)
- Burns
- Arthritis and Connective Tissue Disorders
- Neuromuscular Disorders
- Limb Deformities
- Amputation
- Cerebral Palsy
